Anesthesiologist Patrick Kochanek, M.D. at the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research at the University of Pittsburgh: revived dogs that had been clinically dead. The researchers cooled the dogs and flushed their veins with a chilled solution of salt, glucose, and dissolved oxygen. Several hours later the dogs were given a blood transfusion and reheated. They revived, although a few of them experienced minor brain damage. The experiment was reported in the Nova “Suspended Animation” program above (DVD).
