Meet Robert Howarth, Ph..D.

Robert Howarth, Ph.D.,, the David R. Atkinson Professor of Ecology and Environmental Biology, Cornell University (NY)
the Howarth-Marino Lab
Dr. Howarth is Co-Editor in Chief of the journal of Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Research (OLAR) and he is also Chair of the SCOPE International Biofuels Project.

In 2021, Dr. Howarth co-authored with Mark Jacobson of Stanford University a much-cited article about the real carbon footprint of “blue” hydrogen. The information in this article is a caution about certain “innovations” touted as “green” energy. The article provides a much-needed analysis of the claim that blue hydrogen was "clean." They determined that,in fact, the greenhouse gas footprint of blue hydrogen is more than 20 percent greater than burning natural gas or coal for heat.

On January 11, 2022 Robert Howarth discussed the issue of blue hydrogen on SftPublic's _Contemporary Science Issues and Innovations_program: How "Clean" Is Blue Hydrogen Energy?. He also discussed his appearance at COP26 in November 2021 as well as some of his other work.
