Professor Justin Hollander has written several very accessible books about land contamination and restoration. In Principles of Brownfields Regeneration, the book he discussed for Science for the Public, he describes land areas that have been rendered unusable as a result of hazardous contamination from industry, mining and other types of pollutants. He explains how, with the help of modern scientific expertise, some of these areas can be reclaimed.
