Our Shaking Earth: Understanding and Predicting Earthquakes

Our Shaking Earth: Understanding and Predicting Earthquakes
November 28, 2023 (noon) WGBH Forum Network webinar

Brendan Meade, Ph.D.,
Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Harvard University website

Our planet is subject to more than 50 earthquakes a day. Fortunately, most do not cause significant damage. But some quakes are extremely destructive. Scientists who analyze the shift patterns of Earth’s tectonic plates are developing better prediction tools. However, the complexity of tectonic movements can make prediction very challenging. Dr. Meade describes how scientists study this constant tectonic motion and how they develop earthquake models.
