Meet Andrew Kurtz, Ph.D.

Contemporary Science Issues and Innovations

Andrew Kurtz, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Earth and Environment, Boston University. Dr. Kurtz's research involves the geochemistry of Earth surface processes, Earth history, and biogeochemical cycles. A particular interest is understanding links between terrestrial and marine processes, especially silicate weathering, because of its role in releasing nutrients from bedrock.

Dr. Kurtz appeared on SftPublic's Contemporary Science Issues and Innovations October 06, 2015 to discuss Soil:The Skin of the Earth. His discussion was particularly informative about the impact of climate change on soil. Dr. Kurtz explains (in this program video) how soils evolve, diversify and enable plant and animal life. And why there is increasing concern today about threats to soil, the "pedosphere".
